Happy 'Journal Day - Take 2!
Dec. 3rd, 2013 10:48 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My Livejournal is 10 years old today! I am thinking a good way to celebrate this milestone is hosting a friendzy!
You probably, all know the drill by now - post an intro below, get to know some fun people.
I will start, if,'journal doesn't mangle this post!
Hi! I'm
ghost_light, I'm 43 and I suck at writing intros. I live in Anchorage, Alaska with my husband
LonelyDumptruck and 296,000 other people.
I work days doing data entry (why yes, that is as exciting as it sounds) and helping out at a small real estate to afford what I really like to do - theatre and roller derby!
I am a Talking Woman and resident stage manager for a burlesque troupe and I stage and house manage for the Performing Arts Centre where I have been heckled by Bill Engvall and had Kenny G. stick his tongue out at me as we passed in the hall.
I am a Skating Official (referee) in
the Derby Intelligence Compliance Squad for Anchorage's roller derby league. Yes, that means we are DICS.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
So, post an intro, make some comments, find some new friends to enjoy!

Date: 2013-12-03 08:13 pm (UTC)My name is Frank. I am also not great at introductions.
I live outside Boston Massachusetts with my wife of 20 years.
I am a mechanical engineer. I work for a company that makes giant robot freezers for the medical industry.
My wife and I run a sword troupe (www.phoenixswords.com) that performs up and down the east coast of the US. (We'd go farther if people bought us plane tickets...)
I like posting photos as they say 1000 words each.

Date: 2013-12-03 08:38 pm (UTC)I'm about to turn 40. I'm currently a stay-at-home mom. Both my boys are finally in school as of this year, which was supposed to be my year of taking it easy, except that it doesn't seem to be happening! I'm very involved in my Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and planning to go back to school to become a UU minister. At this time, I must point out that I am either an atheist or a pantheist, depending on how important sentience is to your definition of deity. And, yes, I really talk like that.
I'm a warm, loving, supportive, honest friend. I believe that friendship needs reciprocity; I learned a long time ago to stop investing myself in people who do not invest themselves in me.
I'm geeky: Dr. Who, Hitchhiker's Guide and Star Trek inform my life in many ways. I'm finally getting back into table-top gaming and hoping that continues.
I'm liberal/progressive in my politics and opinions.
And I have to go test the refurbished Wii I got my kids for Winter Solstice, so if you want more, check out the links in my profile. I know it might not sound like it, but I could use a few more good friends. :)

I am a single mom, in my early 30s and I live in Australia.

Date: 2013-12-03 09:26 pm (UTC)Intro!
Hi, I'm Heather, the Goddess of Smoo. I'm a native Floridian who still lives here. It is the best state ever. I went to Florida State University and I have a masters in biological science and a minor in chemistry.
I collect keychains and have have thousands from all 50 states and all seven continents. If you have any in any condition that you don't want, please send them my way! These days my journal focuses on one keychain a day out of my collection. It seems to be pretty popular with folks!
I started traveling at an early age which helped facilitate my collection. I spent a lot of time in the Far East when I was little and I'm always planning and looking forward to my next trip. If this all sounds interesting to you, just add me, you don't have to ask. Feel free to check out my interests and I'm sure we'll be great chums! :)

Date: 2013-12-03 09:47 pm (UTC)I live in Columbia SC, and in addition to the husband and sons have a dog (also male). If we don't have a daughter the next go round I'm getting a girl puppy. I'll probably get a girl puppy at some point down the road even if we do have a baby girl but I'm not doing the newborn and new puppy thing.
We're moving at the end of this year (to another house in town) and many of my posts are about that.
I'm politically progressive and Catholic. I don't really talk much about either politics or religion.
I read everything and comment some, but I don't comment on everything.

Date: 2013-12-03 11:37 pm (UTC)Let me give this a go.... I'm Still Reluctant After All These Years Online To Give Out My Actual First Name, Even Though I Think Most Of My Friends List Knows It, so call me Mali Rose.
I just turned 46 a month ago, and I've been on LJ for...let me check...wow, eleven years. My profile is wildly inaccurate...I should fix that thing. I post mainly about my daily life. For the last year, I've been engaged in a project to post a photo a day. They were originally supposed to be photos I'd taken that day, but that sort of got off track. I will probably continue the project in 2014. (I use two different cameras, a Canon dSLR and an Olympus point-and-shoot with a lot of built-in bells and whistles, even though it's a pocket camera.)
What else? I'm a huge geek. I read almost entirely fantasy only, with the occasional SF or mystery novel. I'm a Trekkie from my teenage years, a Whovian of only slightly newer vintage (Davison was my first favorite, but now Eccleston is, and I am vastly amused by Tennant being married to Davison's daughter), loved the original Tomorrow People (not so sure about this new incarnation). And while I didn't see Iron Man in theaters, ever since I did see it, I have been captivated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I've been a writer all my life (started with crayons and construction paper). I'm mostly writing fanfic these days, though, as my original ideas sort of dried up and blew away a long while back. Still, I'm not unhappy with fan fiction, so there.
And this is getting rather longer than it needs to be. So, um, hi!

Date: 2013-12-03 11:39 pm (UTC)I'm Liz. Former librarian, former public high school teacher (but I can't make myself do it anymore), Waldorf-trained teacher.
Struggling artist, mystic, and housewife. Just turned 44 two weeks ago, it's weird changing the number. We bought a house this summer and have been spending time remodeling the backyard/deck/patio and garage; I'm currently working on some writing projects and building the physical strength in my body; those two have been what I've mostly been writing about recently.
Spousetacular and I have two middle aged cats and have been unable to have children. I love kids and hearing about kids, though; I may Feel Feelings about it but I'm not bitter and I'm mostly not sad.
Let's see what else. Bi Poly Kinky History and Writing nerd. Been here on LJ about 10.5 years myself. Love steampunk aesthetic, dancing, and making art of whatever kind.
Swing on by and see if you like my writing style, I think I've got enough public posts to give folks a taste.

I also love history and vintage things. Nominal Catholic with Pagan leanings, very liberal. Sometimes I rant about politics, especially since we just moved to a conservative area.
I tend to post just about every day, comments are lovely but not required. There's an intro post on my Lj if people want to know more.

Date: 2013-12-04 03:55 am (UTC)Basics about me: I live in Portland, OR with my fiance Brian and our two cats Walter (2) and Isabella (9). I have been vegan for the last three years and it is a big part of my life. I am also a very active person; I climb mountains, go on ridiculous bike rides, and am always up for a good adventure. Sometime before I turn 30 I would like to complete a triathlon, but I suppose I need to get much better at swimming first--there's still time! I'm not much of a "fangirl" but I do watch a fair amount of TV. Some current favorite shows include Bob's Burgers, Luther, Scandal, Parenthood, and more. I also love music, but don't really like concerts. (I have a huge personal bubble).
Clearly, I am not a very articulate writer. I write in my own voice and I don't often proofread what I write, so if I sound interesting to you and you don't mind reading posts that are often very jumbled up, please feel free to add.

Date: 2013-12-04 05:06 am (UTC)Anyhow, I'll introduce myself, too ... I'm always up for new friends. My name's Mark, and I live in Bozeman, Montana. I'm an unattached gay man, and I spend as much time as I can wandering around in the Montana mountains with my camera and my dog Charlie. Right now, I'm posting about 5 times a week, with a fair number of photos. I pretty much always read my friends list, though my commenting is sometimes a bit spotty.
I have LJ friends all over the spectrum, and certainly don't have a litmus test for online friendships, though I appreciate honesty and open-mindedness. Personally, I'm politically and socially progressive, and very non-religious.
Most of my entries are public, so feel free to stop by!

I'm GLBT-friendly. In fact I believe everyone is at least somewhat bisexual. I don't discriminate against anyone except ignorant assholes. I don't talk much about religion or politics but politically I consider myself Libertarian, and religiously, I recently returned to the Catholic Church after drifting away 5-6 years ago (thank you Pope Francis!) In my spare time I enjoy TV, movies, reading, travel, outdoor activities, golf and skiing. So take a look at my profile and add me if you want.

Date: 2013-12-04 05:48 am (UTC)My day job is updating my company's website. Outside of work, I garden, take photographs, spoil my cats, knit, do all sorts of geeky stuff, explore my pantheistic spirituality. I write Grey's Anatomy fanfiction even though my beloved ship of Cristina/Owen has been torched by the writers.
In 2013 alone, I've rediscovered a love for knitting, got hugged by Carrie Fisher, learned level 1 reiki, saw Sir Paul McCartney in concert, finally developed better communication skills, and am starting to think I'm a grown-up now. But I'm not old, not at all.
My goals for 2014 are possibly going to San Diego for a marathon and working on being more flirty. Not necessarily at the same time.
Now I'm concerned that I just oversold myself and you will friend me expecting magic and sparkles with every post and then I'll be posting about the night guard I'm getting from my dentist next week and you will be like, where are the unicorns?
This photo got me a $100 gift certificate from ThinkGeek.com.

Date: 2013-12-04 06:06 am (UTC)We are in a crazy time of our life right now, as we are in the process of fixing up the house we live in to sell.
When our lives are not in boxes I am pretty much a crafty fool. I love to play with polymer clay, I also am fond of crocheting but am a newb, so all I know are a few basic stitches. I have the starts of two lovely blankets to finish soon though, so that's not too bad. I used to draw, and plan to get back in to it as well. I love learning to do new crafts, so I have big plans for once we have moved.
I'm kind of geeky, I love Doctor who (old and new), I like Apple products, and think book stores and thrift stores are Awesome.
My commenting may a bit sparse right now because of how busy we are, but it will smooth out once all of the major stuff is taken care of here, so all I ask is that new friends be patient.

Date: 2013-12-04 06:33 am (UTC)I work in a public library and absolutely love it. I'm a proud bookwork and librocubicularist. Other than that, I love veg*n food, karaoke, thrifting, and being a light in the lives of others. Started getting back into gaming and doing mixed media art and watercolours. Not really much of a tv person, but I'm a documentary junkie and use Netflix quite a bit just for that purpose.
More about me can be learned at my profile and I recently did a random facts meme post that can be read here (http://saintsalike.livejournal.com/190218.html). I'm horrible at introducing myself because I'll say something and then be like, "oh, I should have said that about myself instead!"
Looking for people to connect with and create lasting friendships with. I would love to have you along for the journey that is my life. :)

Date: 2013-12-04 09:20 am (UTC)Name's manuela, born in '79 and living in Germany.
In my journal (which is locked except for some picture posts) you'll find rambling about every day stuff, I like to take pictures when I'm going somewhere and post videos when I fell in love with new music I discovered and if I haven't updated my journal for a week or two, I simply make an entry talking about what I did and what's going on, out of sheer guilty conscience.
I love puns and wordplay and books (Steinbeck, Poe, Kafka. Frank McCourt, Neil Gaiman, Walter Moers. To name some of my all time favourites).
Music! As long as it's self-made and does not include too much synthie sounds or even drum computers.
Travelling, languages, accents. Stuff!
Not religious in the sense of the common religious orientations, but I respect life, which includes no tolerance of animal cruelty or abuse of people with any kind of deficiencies whatsoever. So not taking any kind of jokes in that direction, but in general I'm not easily offended, have a rather morbid kind of humour and tend to take things not too seriously.
LGBT friendly (which is rather sad having to be mentioned, now that I think about it, isn't it?), pro-interaction on LJ, anti-drama, gluten-free.

Date: 2013-12-04 09:34 am (UTC)* Photography is both my income, hobby, and passion. Consequently the vast majority of my posts are photos. I post photos to mark events, share what I see, and enjoy a personal memory here and there. Unless I’m asking for it I’m generally not looking for a critique. I love comments on photos if they resonate with you, but you aren’t under any obligation. My journal is mostly photos, and I typically post one a day.
* I’m a liberal, agnostic, childless, pet-less, 100% sober individual. If your views on life are super traditional we are likely not going to click. My journal is by no means political, but those are my leanings in case you were wondering.
* I’m more emotional than the average guy, I’d like to think I’m a very caring and good friend to the people on LJ I connect with. Of course that part is subjective. I have a lot of friends on my list that are struggling with serious issues. I used to say that I wasn’t looking for anymore friends suffering from depression simply because it was too hard for me to have to read about sadness all of the time without internalizing a bit. I guess now I’m more to a stage of - if you have a problem in your life that is big that you aren’t trying to improve upon, I would ask that you skip me. If you are working it out, and could use some support - I like helping. I go through some dark moods myself, I think everyone does. I do try to remain somewhat positive.
* Sometimes I rant about business stuff in my journal. I absolutely love my job and I don’t want to do anything else, but like any job it has it’s ups and downs.
* I love really getting to know people on LJ, and even though sometimes that can be hard with so many great people living so far away I do think it’s ultimately worth it. I’m not opposed to connecting on more than one level of social media and I’ve met quite a few people from here in my time.
* I comment when I feel like it, and if you write in massive text clumps I tend to avoid those entries. Give me some paragraph breakups and I am more likely to chime in. If you are keeping a tally count on comments and like to do friends cuts a lot I’m probably too laid back for you.
* Due to the nature of my business a lot of my life is fairly public on the internet. I ask that whatever I talk about in my journal stays there.

Date: 2013-12-04 11:18 am (UTC)My name is Kristy. I've been married 17 years to my husband Shawn. We have two sons: Erik, who is fourteen years old, and Logan, who is 3 years old.
I currently sell handmade items locally and through Etsy/Facebook. I also still write freelance when the opportunity arises.
My favorite things are books, gaming, the Autumn and Winter Seasons, knitting, sewing, quilting, taking pictures, baking and most anything nerdy. I absolutely love science and history jokes. I'm a huge ancient history buff and love nothing more than reading up on or watching a documentary on ancient history.
TV: Well I don't watch TV all the time but when I do it's usually stuff like 'River Monsters', 'Charmed', 'Supernatural', 'America Unearthed', 'Ancient Aliens', 'Monsters and Mysteries in America', 'Firefly', 'Farscape'... I think you are getting the idea here.
Favorite Movie: The Princess Bride. I also like quirky things such as Mel Brooks movies. ;D
I'm pagan and I ramble a bit about it but I usually let you know ahead of time if you wanna skip on by. I love having friends of various spiritual path and am not judgmental of any religion. If it makes you happy, go for it.
That's enough, yeah?
PS: Any other World of Warcraft players would make me very giddy indeed!

Date: 2013-12-04 01:02 pm (UTC)I am 54 and live in New England. Have been on LJ for 11 years and my FList has been quiet of late, so I am grateful for these invitations to add Friends.
My FList is Friends Only. I am a pagan/witch, but nothing terribly spooky or weird goes on. Mostly I blog about things I am doing, making, thinking, the weather, books, and life overall. I do tend to go on some FanGirl spurts of Dr. Who, Mavel superheroes, Sherlock and a few tv shows, but it is not a fan blog or anything.
So, if anyone is interested, let me know. Always happy to make new friends. I post most days and try to read and comment and be supportive and that sort of thing. 'Cause that is what it is all about...
