This Is Where We Came In got a little mention on the channel 13 news last night. The filmed part of the set and the producer talking about how much fun the show is.

Lonelydumptruck and I will be on Stage Talk this afternoon. It recorded yesterday. I sound like a prat but Lonelydumptruck is awesome.

Long day. Lonelydumptruck was home sick so I snuck home for a map before my dentist appointment and dinner after. My teeth were so great the dentist thought my x-rays were old instead of ones taken today.

I will pay for today's slack tomorrow. School show, then I need to stop by Mr. and Mrs. Real Estate before they leave on vacation and the Big Boss asked me to ma'am the front desk at the Warehouse of Misfit Toys for a few hours. Then I have to drive across town to get the photos for the lobby for opening night. Oh, and feed the cats on the other side of town. @whee!

Rehearsal was great last night. The producer sat in last night and really enjoyed it. She told me how good it was and what a good job I had done several times. Then she asked if my dance card was already full ;)

ghost_light: (I can FLY!)
Last night went exceptionally well! The cast did an amazing job reblocking on the fly to adapt to a radically different space. About 30 (!!) people came and they laughed!

This is kind of a remedial class at the University. Every year the professor picks a play and has the students read it, then takes them to the show and there is a Q&A after. They all needed to leave pretty quick after the show, so we didn't do the talk, but it looked like they had fun. The professor sent us a great email telling us how much the students enjoyed seeing professionals play 'their' parts. I'll post that later.

We were supposed to have an open rehearsal for a group of UAA students at Cyrano's tonight but it fell through thanks to logistics. Then we got the idea of taking the show to them. The professor is over the moon that we are coming, but warns there might not be much of an audience. We won't have costumes, we have only a handful of props and I put everyone back on book for the show. I am nervous and giddy. I hope people come. I hope they like it.

Brain Dump

I am officially sick. I lost my voice while I was House Managing last night. Such a treat. I have rehearsal tonight too. Last time I lost my voice I was directing A Christmas Story. My stage manager made a show of duct taping my mouth closed so I wouldn't try to talk too much, but we had to cut a hole in it so I could drink my Diet Coke. I keep threatening that I'm just going to text the actors notes while they go through the scene tonight. Can't you see it? *Beepbeep* "Stop sucking!" :)

The nephew turns 4 tomorrow so LonelyDumptruck went to breakfast and then I completely wore myself out shopping for toys. We only went to one store, but there was way too much cool stuff to look at, way too much! It reminded me of when my mom told me that, when I was a baby, she and dad would have a couple drinks and play with my toys after I went to sleep.

I bought another box of Christmas cards. Since I've been collecting addresses I suppose it's time to avoid doing real work by watching something on TV and actually writing a few cards.

Show

Rehearsals are going swimmingly (knock wood)! I have an amazing cast who is willing to try anything, is already going overboard for laughs and is not afraid to tell me when something is not going to work.

I am missing one actor because she is in another show, but the stage manager is her boyfriend so I know she is getting her notes. He brought her son to rehearsal last night. He is a good kid and has a handheld game so we might as well have been on the moon for all he cared about us.
After we'd been rehearing a bit my SM nudged me and whispered "I think you have a hit on your hands."

I looked over and, not only had the kid put down his game to watch, he was so rapt he'd crept into the onstage area.

I love my show!

Well, I opened my mouth and I'm up to 5 part-time jobs.

The Big Boss at The Warehouse of Misfit Toys called. They are getting behind on data entry again. He asked me to come in for a couple hours a day a couple times a week. Tuesday was my first day back. It was actually nice, all of the good parts with none of the bullshit. People were happy to see me. Almost everyone who quits ends up back with the Misfit Toys at some point and one of the guys who came back a few months before I quit greeted me with "Wow! That was a long vacation!"

The Brr-lesque went very well last night. I was is a shitty mood going in, but that was all my lack or prior planning. Everything that could get fucked up was not only fucked up but fucked right in the ear there for a while. I bought new heels a couple nights ago and fangs, since I am the Trampire. Last night I finally decided to go buy the corset I've been eying all month, then I changed my mind and didn't even try it on because of the price tag. Then the combination of LonelyDumptruck encouraging me to just buy the thing already and realizing the price probably included the matching cape and skirt sent me back to try it on. It took two people to get me into it, but I was in love, so I bought it.

Then I ripped a hole in my stockings with the rhinestones down the back seam. And one of my new heels broke putting it on the first time. And without the added height of the heels the cape I borrowed was so long that I spent the first hour telling people they were standing on my cape even when they were five feet away from me. And I realized the skirt was not going to fall the way my old reliable skirt does so one bit would be a little too risque even with my spanky pants. And I forgot to put my fangs in. And the corset wouldn't stay zipped up because the zipper bent. And we had some light and sound gremlins.

But you know what? The show was fucking amazing and the audience loved me.

I get staked in the last scene, being a trampire and all, so I have an elaborate death where I fling myself all over the stage. I kept putting out an arm asking for help from each part of the audience and, when no one would help me, I flipped them all off and just fell over. A bunch of my cohorts at the Warehouse of Misfit Toys were there, so Tuesday will be a fun day when I go in to work.

We had the first reading of This Is Where We Came In today. It was so awesome I actually got teared up twice. The theatre has so many things going on we might be rehearsing in my living room this week, but the show is going to be marvelous.

Also, my computer picked up another nasty virus. Basically all we could do was turn it off. LonelyDumptruck's picked today to reject its video card. He got it working again, but the screen is a bit headache inducing. I do have my phone, I just probably will not be reading a much for a while.

That's about life here. How are you?

I survived the shows over the weekend. My last show was good, not their best. My Littlest Actor discovered that if he pinched the girls during a scene there wasn't a whole lot they could do about it, so that's how he spent his final performance *facepalm*

Auditions on Monday went very well. I had 16 people turn up and I love my cast already. I haven't even told them they are my cast yet. :)

We're ramping up for the Brr-lesque on Friday and Saturday. The Dirty Little Comics wrote another Halloween serial. Last year it was The Dirty Little Comics Meet the Mummy and this year is The Dirty Little Comics Vs. the Trampire. I get to talk! I also have to find fangs. And a cape. And lots of sparkles.

I should have done that, and worked on a directors' handbook for the theatre and cast my show last night, but instead I bought the new Sims expansion and I happily crapped away a couple of hours playing a new Sim and trying to raise his celebrity level. The other new game content is vampires. I am not responsible for this, it is all the NPCs faults, but there is a huge overlap between the vampires and the big celebrities in my town.
