I have only seen one of the movies that is nominated for an Oscar in any category this year.

I used to be one of those people who considered the Oscars their Superbowl. I filled out the forms, I made bets with people, I went to the parties but at some point it just became less important.

I still see a lot of movies. I say I don't, but my yearly lists have lead me to rethink that. I just don't go to many first-run movies anymore. Most of the time we sit through the previews rating how to see the movie: "Beartooth. Pass. Netflix. Pass. Maybe."

This year is probably the only year I managed to miss so many of the nominated movies. The only one I saw was The Muppets. And I'm seeing it again this week.

I almost never go to movies. I think the last movie I saw that was nominated for an Oscar was Return of the King. A couple of years before that I went and saw a nominated movie and found it incredibly dull. I seldom go to movies in the first place, and I almost never go to "serious" movies because they're either dull or extremely depressing or both. (They're usually about war and death, it seems, like War Horse.) Sci-fi action movies are seldom nominated for anything.

However, next week I'm going to go see Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I was planning to see it before it was nominated, but now it means I'm going to see a movie that was actually nominated. It is about a death, but it has an Aspie character, which is why I'm going to see it.
