I have only seen one of the movies that is nominated for an Oscar in any category this year.

I used to be one of those people who considered the Oscars their Superbowl. I filled out the forms, I made bets with people, I went to the parties but at some point it just became less important.

I still see a lot of movies. I say I don't, but my yearly lists have lead me to rethink that. I just don't go to many first-run movies anymore. Most of the time we sit through the previews rating how to see the movie: "Beartooth. Pass. Netflix. Pass. Maybe."

This year is probably the only year I managed to miss so many of the nominated movies. The only one I saw was The Muppets. And I'm seeing it again this week.

Man, this year's selection of movies is outstanding, too! I saw 3 of the Best Picture nominees before last week, and have seen 3 more since. You should really see THE ARTIST. I think you'll totally love it.

If I were going to see one of the nominees, that would be the one. Just for Uggie :)

Same here- out of nine Best Picture nominees, I've seen exactly one.

I almost never go to movies. I think the last movie I saw that was nominated for an Oscar was Return of the King. A couple of years before that I went and saw a nominated movie and found it incredibly dull. I seldom go to movies in the first place, and I almost never go to "serious" movies because they're either dull or extremely depressing or both. (They're usually about war and death, it seems, like War Horse.) Sci-fi action movies are seldom nominated for anything.

However, next week I'm going to go see Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I was planning to see it before it was nominated, but now it means I'm going to see a movie that was actually nominated. It is about a death, but it has an Aspie character, which is why I'm going to see it.

I hardly watch anything Oscar worthy.

I didn't set foot in a theatre in 2011 (I think that's a first for me.) There's been films I'd like to see, but nothing that inspired me enough to endure the time and cost.

That said, one of the documentary nominees is apparently airing on HBO. It now resides on the DVR, so I'll see at least ONE Oscar nominee.

How was The Muppets? Must have been good if you're seeing it again. :)

I really liked it, I laughed the whole way through. It really is a throw-back to the first movie and the show was opposed to Muppets in Space and some of the other films.

That sounds like a great recommendation! I grew up watching "The Muppet Show" and really appreciate the older movies. :)

I agree, When Chris or I go to see a movie we always start saying "video" "by yourself" "pass". On the other hand, these things run in cycles and I'm looking forward to The Hobbit and the Avengers. I'm sure a few more will pop up between now & then.

You are not alone. The last Oscars I watched was in 2000 when "Blame Canada" lost to whatever bland, forgettable Phil Collins song won.

I've never been one for seeing movies in the theatre, so Netflix is perfect for me.

I've got you beat - I've seen none of the movies in any category nominated. oh wait - I did see Midnight in Paris. but that's not too surprising - I don't watch movies nearly as much as I used to.

aw, I didn't see the muppet movie - THAT I do want to see:)
