When you get a song stuck in your head, do you have to actually find the song and listen to it to make it go away, do does simply listening to it play over and over in your brain work?

Me, I have to go out and find the song and play it at least once to get my brain radio to reset.

Typically, the song stays there until it is replaced by another song that I can't get out of my head. There is always, without fail, a song of some sort in my head. It's like I have a constant soundtrack.

And now that comment just put Ima Robot's "Dynomite" in my head. It begins "Here's a story for the kids!"

Thank you. :-P

See, until recently I thought I was the only one, but (thanks to the power of the Internets where such people gather to disclose such varying tidbits such as these) I have discovered I'm not alone!

I just find the nearest dog and taunt it for a few minutes.

Eh, listening helps. But if I really can't get a song out of my head, I sing La Vie Boheme. It's too long to get stuck in my head, but knocks the other one out, too.

I have to make an mental effort to set my head jukebox to a different song, but if the current song is too persistent, I have to actually listen to something else to get that in my head instead.
(I have a lot of experience with this, because unfortunately my head jukebox is set to Always On.)

That never works for me....I either have to think of another song, or hear another one, or get my mind on something else.

I just listen to an endless stream of music 20 hours a day, that way I get at least 10 songs stuck in my head.

I always have to listen to it. In fact I usually listen to it like, five times on repeat, and then it's stuck in my head again.

Yeah, that's usually the flaw in my strategy too.
