Lovely weekend. We had rehearsal for the Crooked Toad outside yesterday. It was in a parking lot, but there was still sun. After that we came home, BBQ'ed and ate out on the porch with Jay. Somehow we ended up with nothing to do so we watched TWO(!!) movies (Stranger Than Fiction, which I liked a lot, and Prarrie Home Companion, which I found troubling in places.)

I'm driving to Girdwood for a school visit today and going to a play reading at Cyrano's tonight. I think we have something going on every night this week!

But now, on to the important things...

1. How did your family pets get their names?
2. Do light bulbs last long enough?
3. My birthday is just under 2 months away, is it too early to start my "I want this" list?

I had an American Eskimo, which by definition is snowy white. Her name of "Snow White" came naturally. ;)

2. Do light bulbs last long enough?
Yep, unless it's one of the "everlasting" ones that suddenly dies. What the crap?!

3. My birthday is just under 2 months away, is it too early to start my "I want this" list?
Oh, heck no. Start 'er up!

1 Babushka got her name because she likes to be wrapped in a blanket and she looks like a granny
2 not the ones in the hard-to-reach places!
3 no way - there's nothing worse than having to scramble at the last minute to tell someone what you want!

I loved Stranger than Fiction too!

1. Oh boy.
My first cat was named Sin-sin because my 8 year old brain thought that a foreign word for money was a good choice for a pedigreed Siamese.

I had a long-haired hamster named Tribble. (Yes, I'd show him to people while hiding his head & feet. Why do you ask?)

Then there was Manticore, a ruffed, long-haired tabby cat with very human expressions & a strange pointed, almost short-haired tail. (Come on, it was just sooo obvious!)

My cat leetSfoginR was named for the battle cry of a sword fighting group I was with for a while, 'The Ring of Steel'.

My hedgehog was named Norwan after the American Indian dancing porcupine Goddess. (Yes, had it been male I would have gone straight to Spiney Norman. "Dinsdale...")

I've rarely ever named my fish because, face it, when you have about 600 or so fish at one time it gets pretty hard to keep them straight. So the tanked fish were un-named & the Bettas were 421, 422, 423 & so on.

My current cats are named:
Lhiannon-Sidhe - a Kreative Name(TM) variation of the Leanan Sidhe, dark fairy muses of Celtic legend & a tip of the hat to the Welsh Goddess Rhiannon.

Devon - Briefly (veerrrry briefly) in 1991 I toyed with the idea of baby names. This is my son. (And I guess my next male cat shall be named Cullum. Or Siobhan if it's a girl.)

Navarre - after Etienne Navarre from the movie 'Ladyhawke'.

2. Not when they are 3-ways.

3. Do it! Start it NOW!
Or you just may wind up like I did a couple years ago. Bob suddenly looked at me the day before my Birthday & said... "Umm... buy something you want off of eBay tomorrow & I'll pay for it." He quickly learned that was a major relationship fau paux. (And he gets reminded from time to time.) :-) Along with the one of promising he'd make me a cast iron x-mas ornament tree & 2 years later he delivered it in August as my "birthday present". Hurrruummph! That one should be made into a TLC Life Lessons statue!
