I gave up liking Lloyd Webber a while ago. I sometimes joke to the kids that, of course, they like his shows, but soon they enter their 20's and discover Sondheim.

I'm watching Phantom of the Opera on cable while I fold laundry.

Goddammit, All I Ask of You is still so damn romantic it reduces me to tears, even with a balless surfer singing the tenor line.

I went through the Lloyd Weber thing and then through being embarrassed about it and then all the way out the other end to not being embarrassed about it anymore. (I think I hit the turning point on my cross-country drive winter before last where I listened to the Phantom soundtrack a coupla times and I was like, "Wow, this is so ridiculous. This is so ridiculous. This is so eighties. Why do I LIKE this so much? Oh man, this song is so awesome, this is totally my favorite part--" And I just couldn't fight it anymore.)

Webber knows how to write a good emotionally manipulative piece of music.

I personally get shivers when I hear "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from Sunset Boulevard myself.

Phantom of the Opera is awesome. Loved it on stage and love the movie. Cry at both. LOL!

I never grew out of the Andrew Lloyd Webber thing. "All I Ask of You" really is amazing. :)
