We had a lovely night off yesterday. I went into work and fielded questions about how sunburned my boobies had gotten at Faire. lonelydumptruck had the great day - he drove out to Willow to be in a GCI commercial! I don't know when it is airing, but I'm sure as hell going to try to capture in on DVR when it appears. I can't say much about it, but lonelydumptruck did tell me they had to have a truck covered with mud. They were afraid it would be too dry out there to find any mud, so they covered the truck with chocolate pudding and cake mix. He even got a picture with it!

Ila got into town over the weekend (Dad has been here for about 2 weeks) so we had family dinner out in the party palace last night and then came upstairs to watch more of True Blood. It was so nice to have a night off. We should go to the site for the Mayor's Charity Run tonight - we're supposed to have people in costume waving people into the Crooked Toad for the finish, food and drinks - but we're not feeling it yet. We might still rally but I think I'm rooting for take-out and television tonight.

Faire Day 2

More sunburn and more fun!

The big boss came to the 6:00 Naughty Bawdy Tavern Show. He was in line to buy a turkey leg from the booth next door when the show started and I didn't think he had seen me. As soon as I gave my line for the Crooked Toad Tavern Wench Training Institue advertisement (Ladies, are you tired of spending all day down on your knees cleaning floors instead of earning what you're really worth in that position?) his head snapped around and he started to grin. I wasn't sure what he would think of the show but I got a big hug after wards and he bought me a beer.

My favorite part of the day was at the very start. A group brought a petting zoo to the grounds and they had a bunch of goats, some ducks, three pigs and a little baby lamb that kept making this plaintive bleat that just sounded like 'Are you my mommy?' They just bought the poor little lamb yesterday so this was his first time in the pen with all the other animals. Every time he tried to get some attention one of the goats would headbutt him away, so our new wench, Charity, and I sang him a Cake song to make him feel better. Can you guess which one?

We got the Fair taken apart on Sunday. The weather remained crappy for the entire Fair, though the sun came out every night at 8:35 sharp, but the crowds on Sunday were HUGE! I don't think we could have fit any more people into the Toad at the first show. We ran out of beer about 6:00, which lead to the bartender, Slyfe, coming to sit on the stage during Quit Slacking so he could yell "Sorry!" or "You can't!" when we got to the lines "You Barmen, get pouring like pumping the bilge. Quit slacking, you bastards, let's DRINK!"

We left for Valdez Monday morning/early afternoon. The drive was great! It was so sunny and hot over the pass that I was freaking out about forgetting to pack shorts and a tanktop, but it socked in and got chilly as soon as we hit the canyon and has stayed that way. I got to drive for about an hour and a half. I thought I was doing pretty well, but apparently I was tailgating and that got on Hubby's last nerve pretty damn quick.

They changed the housing arrangements this year. We pulled in expecting to set up a tent in the gym and instead we are sleeping in the lounge of one of the dorms with TWO computers in the room. The downside is that the door can't be shut and locked because this is where the folks camping can come in to spend time and use the bathroom.

We got into town just in time to see Sway Me Moon as the evening staged event. Hubby saw it at Out North, but I missed it then. It was wonderful! One of the best shows I've seen this year. Luckily we were sitting near a friend who saw the director and playwright in the back with Kleenex and he stole enough to share.

The Fringe last night was also really fun. It was in the Mexican place instead of at the Totem in as usual. They read 6 plays. The standout for me was one where a cellphone kept ringing during the final scene of King Lear and it turned out to be Cordelia's.

I made it to 3 readings today, which I will talk about later. Need to zoom to get to the evening event, the Fringe and the bonfire tonight!

I have a phantom mosquito bite on my left foot. I felt the little shit bite me, it itches insanely, but there is no bump! Gah!

I didn't wear my TENS again yesterday, making 3 days without it. I'm achy all the time but surviving. Of course, I also had a pain pill at 8am yesterday. I can't do that today since I'm working.

Yesterday was so nice we ended up going to 2 BBQs, one here with the family and one with some Fair folks. Of course, there is an event at the Toad tonight so it looks like it is back to grey and murky again today. At least we can wear civies tonight.

We survived the first weekend of the Ren Fair! The weather was pretty bad - really grey and chilly. It rained (okay sprinkled) during one of our shows and after the fair on Saturday night, but the sun came out as soon as the fair closed last night. This good weather had better hold!

My last question was a really good example of 'how do I get my questions', for those who wonder. I asked about funky asparagus pee because I brought some asparagus to grill at fair rehearsal the night before. That got me thinking about a segment on Brainiac where they explored why you get funky asparagus wee. Apparently there is a percentage of people who can't process asparagine. (I think it was almost 50% in the UK and higher in the US) BUT, there is also a percentage of people (with a similar correlation, I think) who can't smell asparagine. I think I'm in the later category - I've never smelled funky asparagus wee as far as I know. I'd never even heard of it until I saw a scene in a movie where girls were testing how long it took them to get it.

1. How was your weekend?

2. What is the most memorable thing you saw this weekend?

3. Are you celebrating anything special this month?

Sadly, the Subamino doesn't live at the house across the street so I have not been able to get a picture yet. My master plan was to get some shots in the early morning before work when no one was around but that has not worked. Every time it's there after work the guys are swarming around it like flies on....a Subamino. The good news is that this means it is somewhere in Anchorage and someone else may get a sighting of it. Keep your eyes peeled! Just for the added bonus, it has red sides and a grey/primer hood. Very hot.

We spent most of the weekend on site with the Fair. I always feel sorry for all the plants around the Crooked Toad when we set up. It's such a late spring, and you can just hear all the dandelions and little leafy brush going "Ahh...there's the sun! I can finally grow and sprout and *thud!* Spool! Spool! There's a spool on me! Agh!"

Most of the guys got sexy new pirate boots and rope sandals to wear this year. I'm starting to think I'll be the only one without a new piece of garb in the Toad.

Pain levels have not been good lately, but I think that is also how much I've been up and around doing things. I'm going to have to switch TENS units this week to the old reliable from the new broke-ass. Pretty much 10 minutes after the company called to get me to buy it outright the wiring went whack-a-ding-hoy. I thought it was the pads getting old and not conducting well enough but I was still having problems with only feels the pulses in fits and starts no matter how high I had it turned up (and boy are those fits fun when you go from 0 to 7 with no warning!) I finally figured out that if I twiddle one plug I can get the impulses most of the time, and I can get the other working if I press down on the edge of the plug or pull on the wire. not pleased with this situation.

Work-wise, I should have my July schedule worked out in the next few days!

Friday I was sitting at the PAC, innocently reading a book, and when I stood up there was something incredibly hot in my front pocket! I freaked out, pulling things out left and right (because my pockets are pretty much like a 10-year-old boy's) and inside I find one flaming hot rechargeable battery for my TENS and two smoking hot pennies. They don't warn you about things like that in the instruction manual.

I'm kicking off Roll Thy Leg Over as the closing song at the Toad Show this year, which means I get to do my verse first. I've written 3 for myself over the years and I can't remember a single goddamn one of them! I remember the first half of one, and kind of the rhyme scheme of the last part of another, but they don't fit together.

So last night at rehearsal, there is no stopping. I don't have a verse but it is my turn to sing. One of the directors was joking that I had to come up with something or someone else would do it and I offered to whip a verse out of my ass:

Every damn year I write a verse for this song,
But when I get beer, well, they never last long.
If one of you kind souls could lend me a pen
I'll never have to sing this verse again.

I'm pretty pleased with it, but I don't think I'll be using it. but I did finally remember one of my verses on the way home:

If all of them laddies were tall mugs of beer,
I'd top 'em all off and I'd do it with cheer.
You can drink all you want, you can do what you please
But spill one drop and your down on your knees.

I should work on another one.

I have also agreed to direct Fairy Tale Theatre for ATY this summer. I think I found a fairy tale I want to adapt instead of using a scripted play. I'm worried it isn't long enough and I'll have to come up with some others, but I'm feeling pretty good over all. I want to post the story but I probably won't do it as an open entry.

I'm looking at a busy weekend! I actually made a calendar for the fridge to help keep track of everything this summer. I hope it works!

I house managed 2 ATY shows at the Center yesterday and went out for sushi with userinfospaceyacey523 between shows.

Today I'm pretty free aside from lunch with userinfoname_omitted and a meeting about seating for the Brr-lesque show. So I should actually earn some money by finishing a project for Wild Berry instead of just surfing around and role-playing.

Saturday is the great Kentucky Derby party and then the last Brr-lesque show of the season with the appropriate after-party. I think this is the first time I will not have to leave the Derby party within half an hour of arriving to get to a show. And I should actually be able to drink an entire mint julep this year! Be still my heart!

Sunday is Ren Fair rehearsal and I'm going to skip out of that a little early to catch the last show of Flamel's Dream. Mark got to see it last night and really enjoyed it. I still need to see if my skirt for Fair can be altered and I should look for a new hat. I say that every year, but I think this will really be the one. I'm not sure if the skirt can be saved. I really hope so!
