Yesterday.

Oh yesterday.

One of the shows needs a live dog to run across stage. They told me this about a week and a half ago, so I have been issuing the request through the proper channels. Being the proper channels, they are taking a bit of time. Show opens on Friday.

Yesterday the dog showed up unannounced. And unapproved.

I scrambled, secured permission, laid down the rules. Then found out the dog was not going home after the rehearsal but would be our guest for the day.

I scrambled, secured permission for the dog to stay in the office. Then I went to find the directors and SM of the show.

It was like watching a 3-armed man point. "But K said it was okay!" "I asked A and she said we could!" "I asked K who'd given permission and she was snotty!" "A called the mom to tell her not to pick up the dog!"

As I was recounting the whole thing to my beloved, he just leaned across the table and said. "Next time this happens, ask yourself something very important: What Would Lauren Do?"

Skin the dog, annimate the undead dog as a well mannerd ghoul that would follow direction. Maby, skin the owner.

I love working for Lauren. She protects her crew in a way that I am frankly not used to. It's a grand thing.

Ah, bureaucratic theatre fun!

Remember a while back when I said that I couldn't understand how there's the division in your venue between the old people and the new (or something like that)?

Well... we're in the midst of a full scale Studio B vs. La Scala civil war.

And I'm so glad I'm leaving in 37 days.

All this for a dog to run across the stage?! Just say the hell with it and have a little shadow bolt across the stage with barking sounds in the background!! Or, how about a live person with dog makeup? Or somebody's really ugly relative? Or just someone without their stage makeup on? (Okay, I'm having too much fun with this.) So, are you anticipating anymore last minute surprises? Like, are they gonna tell you the dog has to be chasing a cat? My daughter's got a Clifford puppet I could overnite to you and you could just have someone whip it across the stage!?

In all seriousness, what a pain!! I really hope this get's straightened out for you soon and that nothing else like that comes up!
