I've been cooking!! A week ago or so I made my first from-scratch mac and cheese. It had cream cheese instead of a roux to thicken it and smoked Gouda. Tuesday I made a green curry with shrimp and asparagus. Last night it was fennel-crusted steak bites.

The are all 'quick and easy' recipes, which means they make a good starting place but improvements can be made. The curry was pretty mild, so we added more at the last minute, the mac and cheese would have been better with some mustard powder and all three dishes needed onions but....yay! Cooking!!

Now I am stumped for what to make tonight.

1. What should I make tonight?

2. Where do you get your recipes?

3. Have you eaten Spam?

That sounds delicious!!! Being a vegetarian, I still miss shrimp. :/

1. Eggplant parmesan!
2. From online vegetarian websites or through cookbooks I own.
3. When I was younger. I can't believe I used to enjoy that shit. Even corned beef was amazing, I thought. *shudder*

Yay for cooking! Well done you. :-)

1. What do you have in? What about something Mexican?

2. I have lots of favourites, in lots of books. I look on the BBC Good Food website if I need inspiration.

1. Well, i'm a vegetarian so my food faves are gonna be significantly different than yours, but my defaults are cooked stuff (onions, garlic, whatever veggies are on hand, and seasoning) over pasta, rice, or quinoa. Or wrapped up in a tortilla. Mmmmm, craxy burritos. I have a head of orange cauliflower in the fridge and i think tonight i may just chop it up and roast w/ olive oil, salt and pepper. That might not go over well in your household ;P
2. I love the Moosewood cookbooks. There are quite a few, however i do believe all are veggie. Allrecipes.com is a great site if you have 1 or 2 key ingredients and are looking for new things to do with them.
3. Nope. Canned meat is for the cats.

1--hmm, I really have no clue. ;-)
2--LOL--I hate cooking so I just get things that I can pop in the microwave for a few minutes and then be done with them. ;-)
3--Yes, and I HATED IT! I will NEVER touch that stuff again! NEVER!

1. Easy chicken pot pie: rotisserie chicken, frozen veggies, either condensed cream of chicken soup or make a roux & use chicken stock. Scoop the mixture into a pre-made pie shell, top with another pre-made pie shell, bake.

2. I tend to go to allrecipes.com because I like reading the reviews and what other people did to tweak or fix problems. Then I create my own recipe from there. :-)

3. Yes. I only like it in my mom's rice rolls.

Woohoo for cooking!! I am getting better, but I will never be as good in the kitchen as most of my family.

Check out allrecipes.com. I like that people rate the dishes as well as suggest improvements in the feedback.

1. What should I make tonight?
STIRFRY!!!!

2. Where do you get your recipes?
The Google Machine. No lie when I'm like ooo, I need (fro example) a pasta recipe. I google it. And then click on the the first 10 or links and compare them to see how complicated they are, if they include any ingredients I dislike or can't eat and how long they take.

I've also got a few cookbooks. And I save recipes form magazines. When like Cosmo or something does a food segment. I tear that shit out and put it in my Pirates of the Caribbean folder. *yup. I have a Pirates folder. So sue me*

3. Have you eaten Spam?
Never. Over my stone cold dead rotting corpse will I ever even THINK about consuming that crap. The smell alone makes me gag.
