I Have Angered the Computer Fairies

My desktop remains dead.

lonelydumptruck's mom is lending us one of her laptops but we can't get it to turn on.

We're going over to a friend's so he can help me put together a shiny new system which I hope will play Sims like a dream.

Has anyone here played Sims on a laptop? If so, how has that worked out for you?

Sims on the current laptop we use is not so fun. I haven't actually played it in years because it takes so long to start up and run, and is impossible to switch back to other desktop functions. We've got an ancient HP Pavilion laptop.

I've heard Sims is the surest way to kill a laptop, but I wanted independent confirmation.
