Ketchikan, by and large, SUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!! Full on tourist trap town complete with teenage Nazi crossing guards making sure people are safe crossing certain streets. (but only certain streets.) Blegh! We were thinking of going to a lumberjack exhibition, but we may can it and just head back to the ship.
lonelydumptruck was one of the 3 finalists in the joke-telling contest I mentioned earlier. Last night they did a hugs gala event like it was the Oscars and he got to tell the joke in front of the whole crowd in the theatre. And he WON! We're coming home with a little trophy that's probably supposed to be an eagle totem but looks an awful lot like Harvey Birdman. I am so proud of my boy!
Overall, it's a good time. I love our serving staff at dinner. The Sommelier looks rather like a bouncer or a Bond villain. Our head waiter seemed really shy at first, but he's warmed up and appears to be flirting with my mom at every meal. Our assistant waiter is a KICK! He's from Turkey and instead of saying 'You're welcome', every time we thank him for something he says "Yes, please!" My dad drinks about half a pot of coffee every night with dinner, so the big joke has been getting the assistant waiter 'trained' to bring it at the right times. He's teasing dad about it almost as much as dad teases him.
Today we're doing a wine tasting, tea with mom and sailing off to Victoria. I have faith it will be much, much better than Ketchikan.

Date: 2008-09-04 08:13 pm (UTC)We get off the boat early-early (like 6-ish, I think?) and my folks want to ride up to the hotel with us, so I'll probably be able to call around 8 or 9. Plan on lunch or something?
