A Dairy Queen just opened up in Anchorage, or at least we drove past it for the first time when it was open, yesterday.

Anchorage has a strange thing: any new business is greeted with insane lines. I'm talking movie-premier lines.

Granted, yesterday was a very hot day. But the line to get in was clear out the door and into the parking lot. The line for the drive-thru had to be at least 30 cars. They almost reached the Home Depot on the other end of the parking lot.

I thought I liked a good Buster Bar as much as the next guy. Now I'm not so sure. The next guy seems a little rabid.

When you say "very hot day" -- it's unclear precisely how hot it is there. Numbers, please? (It's in the low 100s here this week.)

ot is low 70s up here...but the sun doesn't go down, so it never cools off...

Oh, and we drove past tonight around 8pm and there were still over 20 cars at the drive through. We kept driving...

That happens in Stillwater, OK too. Fucking Popeye's chicken had lines wrapped around the block when it opened.

A similar phenomenon happens here in Maine. When a new Home Depot opened in Rockland, you'd think they'd celebrated their grand opening with an All-Stars of Country Music concert judging by all the people who showed up there. :-)

It's the novelty. Same thing happened here when the Walgreens opened.
