Another Show Put to Bed
Apr. 5th, 2010 11:44 pmI really enjoyed doing You Can't Take It With You. We were sold out for most of the run. The audience Friday night was insane. We had 40 people there for a birthday party which had started at Sullivan's for cocktails. They brought champagne with them. Needless to say, they were ready to scream with laughter at the drop of a hat. They laughing so loud our SM missed cue lines. The scene I was in started with a doorbell ringing and ended up with a basement full of firecrackers going off all at once. Guess which sound cue we got at the start of the scene, I dare you, guess. It was awesome.
The best part was Tamar's exit as the actress though. The character was blind drunk and making her way upstairs after kissing the stogy old potential Father-in-Law right on the bald head. Instead of singing a limerick, Tamar did 'Minnie the Moocher'. She paused near the top of the steps and said 'I said a hidey-hidey-ho!', then cupped her hand to her ear for a moment before sighing 'No?' and heading upstairs.
Friday night, she said 'I said a hidey-hidey-ho!' and, almost before Tamara got her hand to her ear, an actress known to most of us bellowed from the audience 'Hidey Hidey Hidey Ho!!!' Tamar gave a huge drunken nod quipped 'Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!' and exited, leaving the rest of us to do our best not to die laughing right then and there.
