Day #1: Your Favorite Play - King Lear

Day #2: Your favorite character - Edmund

Day #3: Your Favorite Hero - Orlando

Day #4: Your Favorite Heroine

Setting aside the arguments about if this question should refer to romantic leads or character leads so I actually have a hope to getting caught up tonight...

Seeing As You Like It at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival was one of the best experiences I've ever had with the play. And I have seen it a lot, mostly because of that first Rosalind.

I have seen Rosalind played as being just as twitterpatted and dense as Orlando. When
LonelyDumptruck, LadyMcClellan and I saw the show at OSF in the 90's, Rosalind very nearly gave the whole plot of she and her cousin Celia being dressed as boys in the forest of Arden with the line about "A cabin on the edge of the forest, like a fringe on a pettycoat" and Celia stole the show by breaking into a "lookee me!!!" tap dance. I have seen sassy little Rosalinds, at least one milquetoast Rosalind - I remember her costume better than her protrayal - and they have cemented what I need from the character.

Rosalind needs to be the smartest person on the stage. She is ballsy, funny and does it all with a wink and a smile.

The first Rosalind I saw was all that and the chip of bags, as a co-worker used to say. When did gave the lines
"If I were a woman, I would kiss as many of you as had beards that
pleased me, complexions that liked me, and breaths that I defied
not;"
she was so clear about placing men with those deficiancies in the audience that people in the first few rows turned around to see who she was talking to, it was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen.

A humerous side note - and actor/director I work with in town has done Shakespeare with my first Rosalind and pratically makes an evil eye gesture and spits every time I mention her name.
