I'm so glad that Sneaky Piecrust asked... cuz I was about to. Is "Termination Dust" an official term for something, or a nickname, or how does that work? (Because I'm assuming that, in Alaska, you have 121,093 ways to describe snow.)

Termination Dust is the first snow on the hills/mountains around town. It's the end of summer (although it happens in fucking JUNE sometimes) and is the signal for the snowbirds to get the hell out of town.

Ah, yes. I had a feeling it was something like that! Neat! My nephew lives in Alaska, and I keep wanting to visit him, because I've never been!
