Happy 'Journal Day - Take 2!

My Livejournal is 10 years old today! I am thinking a good way to celebrate this milestone is hosting a friendzy!

You probably, all know the drill by now - post an intro below, get to know some fun people.

I will start, if,'journal doesn't mangle this post!

Hi! I'm [livejournal.com profile] ghost_light, I'm 43 and I suck at writing intros. I live in Anchorage, Alaska with my husband LonelyDumptruck and 296,000 other people.

I work days doing data entry (why yes, that is as exciting as it sounds) and helping out at a small real estate to afford what I really like to do - theatre and roller derby!

I am a Talking Woman and resident stage manager for a burlesque troupe and I  stage and house manage for the Performing Arts Centre where I have been heckled by Bill Engvall and had Kenny G. stick his tongue out at me as we passed in the hall.

I am a  Skating Official (referee) in
the Derby Intelligence Compliance Squad for Anchorage's roller derby league.  Yes, that means we are DICS.
I look forward to meeting all of you!

So, post an intro, make some comments, find some new friends to enjoy!

Hi, My name is Kim and I suck at inros so here goes.

I am coming up on 6 years here on LJ next month. I am 43 yrs old, married and have 2 kids, one grown and one teen who is special needs, autistic to be specific and needs a lot of special care. I have 2 cats and work from home for a major health insurance company. My husband is disabled, all the above is a lot of the reason I work from home.

I love TV, mostly Doctor Who, Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Castle and anything Food Network but my schedule is full most nights.

As far as my journal, I have been on a hiatus kinda thing due to working overtime and I have been sick. I am not a huge commenter so if you want that type person, you don't want me. I have a large friends list because a lot of my friends aren't active and I hate friend's cuts. I know I need to but still don't like them. I love reading journals and what is going on in people's lives.

I love to make icons as well. I have communities for that and I am in a landcomm to fill the TV void. I have a Facebook but nothing is done on it that involves LJ so I usually don't give it out. Autism group, bingo group, etc. LOL

I have two kids who are both in special ed, for very different reasons. My son is in a Structured Behaviour Class, and my daughter is in a Special Day Class. Don't you just love all of the labels?! Shesh.

Anyway, sounds like we have quite a bit in common. :}

I wish my son was in some kind of special ed classes, he has regular classes, just lower end and resource help and an IEP where he gets special help but no special ed. It sucks because the school does fully understand all his issues, his previous school didn't either. And he gets picked on by the other kids. We try so hard but it's a never ending rat race. Ugh

We do have a lot in common.

Why isn't he in any type of special ed class? If you have an IEP, you can request that he be placed in one. Both of my kids have IEP's. There was a time when our small district had no suitable class for my son. He actually had to go to school in the neighbouring county for a couple of years (an hour and a half bus ride one way) until they created a class for him.

Our district doesn't have the funding for any special ed. There isn't any so the kids here fall thru the cracks. I hate to see what happens when he graduates. There will probably be no college as he won't be of an intellectual level to attend or even be able to keep up. I will probably apply for disability for him.

I have looked into some type of other special school but there isn't any in our area.

Both of my kids, I'm sure, will eventually be able to be on their own. I do have a girl friend whose 24 year old son lives with her and probably always will. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is there, but she told me that he has the mentality of a 15 year old. I think she does get disability for him as he can never live on his own or hold down a job.

I watch far, far too much Food Network...

My TV sits on Food Network most of the weekend. It's pretty pathetic. And my husband and I clip coupons for food and for restaurants and we hunt them down when we have some extra money, especially new ones, looking for new tastes and we hunt down recipes. We are some poor saps. LOL
