Ghost_Light Recommends

Chopped on the Food Network.

I watch a lot of cooking competition shows, but this is my favorite.  It is kind of a smash-up of Iron Chef and Top Chef.

4 competitors start.  They are given a mystery basket of ingredients - flour tortillas, rattlesnake, hen o the woods mushrooms and gummy bears, let's say - and they have 20 minutes to cook an appetizer.  1 chef is eliminated and the remaining chefs get a new basket and 30 minutes to do an entree.  Another elimination, another basket and then 20 minutes to make dessert.

Way too entertaining.

I'm watching Next Iron Chef but I like the Japanese Iron Chef better than the new series.

I. adore. chopped. I've seriously watched every episode I could find anywhere. I found it last year.

We found it last year too. I love that I am still not caught up so I can watch several episodes a week.

That always meant Sims for me..

Oh, for a while, it was WoW til it got too $$. But I don't own any of the Sims anymore so I did tv.

I never could get into the original. We are big fans of Alton Brown at our house though, love his commentaries. :D We also love Jeffrey Steingarten's comments whenever he is a judge.

We do everything Alton Brown tells us.

Haha, that's one of my favs because I just like seeing all the crazy shit in the baskets.

One of my favorite shows! I love the crazy stuff in the baskets. Plus I like they tell you what some of the off the wall things are so you are not totally clueless.

I kinda wish I had a TV so I could watch cooking shows.

I think Chopped is my fave! I like Next Iron Chef as well. I'm really, really missing Food Network here in Prague as I often had it on in the background while I worked.

Do they have to use ALL of the ingredients? CAuse I'm not seeing how gummy bears works at ALL.

Me too!

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I like that too. I saw one basket where I had never heard of 3 of the ingredients.

That is about the only kind of tv I watch these days.

Years ago we would have Saturdays where we lost (or "lost") the remote and we would leave the tv on Food Network all day.

That is part of the fun. There is a fuck you ingredient in every basket....sometime three!
